Here are the standard set of milestones seen in most 2 month old babies. Remember that though these are standard, not all babies reach these milestones at this time. Some babies may be slightly delayed, so do not worry.
1. Hearing Development
Your baby can hear very well. They might turn to the source of sound or jerk in case of sudden noises.
2. Vision Development
Babies can see better and a little further away now. They will turn their heads from side to side and start looking at their environment and faces around.
3. Development of Smell
They can smell the milk when the mother carries them. You can see them trying to feed or suck as soon as the mother lifts them.
4. Development of Taste
Your baby is ideally on a strict milk-only diet, hence not much development in this area.
5. Development of Touch
During this time, the baby’s fists are mostly clenched and they do not touch or explore much yet.
6. Fine Motor Skill Development
Babies will keep their fists clenched and try to grasp anything you place in their open palms.
7. Gross Motor Skill Development
You will see your baby sometimes making jerky movements with arms and legs. They may even bring their arms close to their face. Some babies may hurt themselves this way too.

Your baby’s back will get stronger, enabling them to hold up their heads longer during tummy time. Though you still need to support their backs and necks while carrying them, it will be stronger this month.

11. Language Development
Your baby can recognize voices and react to sounds but can’t comprehend anything yet.

At this time, babies can recognize some faces and voices, and even experience stranger anxiety.

Here is what you can do to help them develop on various fronts:
- Keep moving your finger slowly in front of your baby’s eyes to get their attention and focus.
- Sing to your baby to help develop language and hearing skills.
- Keep placing your finger in their open palm and encourage them to hold it. This will develop their reflex and motor skills.

By the time your baby completes their 2nd month, your baby will be able to
- Clench their fists
- Turn head and looks both sides

When Should You Consider Seeing The Doctor?
Considering making a visit to your doctor if
- Your baby is not feeding well or is suffering from latching issues
- Is unable to look at things more than a few inches away
- Does not focus on light or bright objects.
