Four Friends and the Hunter Story For Children
Once there lived three friends – a tortoise, a crow, and a mouse, in a forest. They always spent time together near the lake. One day a deer came by the lake, from the next forest. The tortoise asked “Are you new here? We have never seen you before” and the deer replied “Yes, I am. I come from the next jungle. Can I be friends with you and spend some time with you all?”
The three friends readily agreed to this request and were very happy to expand their group. They started meeting every day and became fast friends.
One day, the crow spots a hunter walking toward the lake and warns his friends. The crow flew to the top of a tree, the deer ran away as fast as he could, and the mouse crept into a hole nearby and hid. The tortoise, being a slow creature, started making its way to the lake. However, the hunter spotted him and caught him. The hunter put the tortoise inside his sack while looking around for a better catch.
The other three friends were watching all this wondering what they could do. After the hunter left, they got together and discussed trying to come up with a way to rescue the tortoise, their friend. Together, they came up with a plan to fool the hunter and save their dear friend.
The crow flew high in the sky looking for the hunter. After spotting the hunter, he informed the deer, who ran as fast as he could, to reach a spot before the hunter. He lay down on the ground pretending to be dead or unconscious. The hunter, on seeing this, got very excited. He dropped his sack with the tortoise in it and ran toward the deer.
This was the moment the friends were waiting for. When the hunter dropped the sack and went to the deer, the mouse came out of his hiding and started nibbling a hole through the sack. The tortoise escaped from the hunter’s sack through this hole. When the hunter got close enough to the deer, the crow gave a signal and the deer leapt up to the hunter’s shock and ran away into the woods.
The hunter was disappointed and decided to take the tortoise and just head home. On going back to his sack, the hunter sees the hole and realizes the tortoise has escaped. The hunter was very disappointed to go back home empty-handed.
