When you are in the sixth week of pregnancy, your little one picks up the pace. Your body produces pregnancy hormones to support their growth and accommodate the space for the little one. Your body prepares itself to supply nutrients for the baby’s growth. While your baby’s heart starts beating this week, let us understand how your body change during week 6 of pregnancy.
In the sixth week, you may need to watch out for a few symptoms that can be alarming. However, it is not always a cause for concern. But just keep an eye on their persistence and don’t forget to inform your gynecologist.
How Does Your Body Change During Week 6 of Pregnancy?
By this week, your baby is the size of a pea, measuring about 0.64 cm in length and 0.2 g in weight. Many symptoms you faced in the initial two weeks may continue in the sixth week, and a few more may add to the list.
Here are a few common symptoms that you may notice in your sixth week of pregnancy.
1. Constipation
Constipation begins to kick in during the sixth week. Once again, thanks to the pregnancy hormones. When these hormones secrets at a higher pace, you are likely to face constipation. It can continue throughout the pregnancy. Some women might feel constipated until their baby is out of their womb. Apart from the pregnancy hormones, the iron supplements and pressure of the fetus could also contribute to constipation.
What to Do?
To cope with constipation, you can make a few lifestyle changes.
- Consume adequate fiber every day.
- Keep yourself hydrated
- Include different kinds of juices and smoothies in your diet
- Follow simple exercises
- Follow a healthy diet routine
2. Tender Breasts/ Breast Changes
The changes in your breasts are pretty standard during early pregnancy. You may face sore or tender breasts, and it may continue to give you discomfort until a few more weeks. You may now notice an increase in the size of your breasts. It can be annoying but hold on, you will be fine. Breast changes during pregnancy are a common symptom and few women may continue to experience it throughout the phase.
What to Do?
Although you can not do anything to control breast changes during pregnancy, learning to balance hormonal changes can help to some extent. You can also choose the right bra that gives the proper support to your breasts to avoid pain.
3. Whitish Vaginal Discharge
It is normal to notice whitish vaginal Discharge during pregnancy. The vaginal Discharge prevents the vagina from infection and keeps increasing as the pregnancy progresses. During the end of the pregnancy, you may notice thick mucus coming out of the vagina, which means that your body is getting ready for labor.
What to Do?
Vaginal Discharge is normal and is healthy to keep your vagina away from infections.
- Use a cotton panty liner.
- Change your inners frequently if you feel uncomfortable.
But, if your experience
- Green or yellow vaginal discharge
- Discharge with an unpleasant smell
- Extreme itching
It can be an infection. Do not hesitate to call your doctor, they will prescribe appropriate medications to keep the baby from getting affected.
4. Aversion to Certain Smells
The pregnancy hormones can may you feel worse by creating aversions to certain smells. This condition is also known as hypersomnia or heightened sense of smell which is very common during pregnancy.
What to Do?
Here are a few things that you can avoid to manage this symptom
- Try not to cook food that gives you an awful smell.
- Keep yourself away from the smell and concentrate on something else.
- Do not use perfumes or beauty products that have extreme fragrances.
5. Spotting or Light Bleeding
Hormonal ups and downs may result in spotting or bleeding during pregnancy. However, light bleeding or spotting is not a cause for concern. When we say spot, it needs to be as light as not sufficient to cover the panty liner. But, if you notice the period flow, it is not normal, and you must check with your doctor immediately.
What to Do?
If it is light spotting, there is nothing that you can do about it. Light bleeding or spotting regresses after a few days and doesn’t last long. However, it is always better to check with your doctor and confirm before making any decisions.
Along with the above-mentioned symptoms, a few other symptoms might also continue like in week 5 of pregnancy.
- Morning sickness
- Frequent urination
- Fatigue
- Excess saliva
- Heartburn
- Occasional headaches
- Food aversions and cravings
You may notice that the list of symptoms is piling up weekly. You need to understand the symptom better to cope with them. While you juggle with the previous ones, you may also begin to notice a few added symptoms every week. But, don’t worry, you will beat them all and come out energetic in a few weeks.
